The 64th District comprises regions of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, East Village, Nolita, Soho, Chinatown, Financial District and Battery Park City. It is one of four “Leadership Parts” in the 64th Assembly District. Part C is composed of 30 of the Assembly District’s 101 Election Districts. Part C EDs are: 1-10, 37, 38, 41, 44-53, 87-90 and 95-97.
As you can see, 64C is a very gerrymandered district indeed. It is non-contiguous, and extremely culturally and economically diverse. Some prominent places in the district are:
The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
The New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street
The World Trade Center site and memorial
Village View Cooperative
First Houses (America’s first public housing project), Rafael Hernandez House (189 Allen St.), Max Meltzer House and Lower East Side Infill Houses.
Gateway Plaza
Bowling Green Park (NY’s oldest) as well as Battery and Sara Delano Roosevelt Parks
Katz’s Delicatessen
New York Marble Cemetery
Federal Hall (America’s first White House)
and much more.
